The Burntwick Smugglers are a five-piece Punk Rock band from Medway, known for their choice covers of hits gone by.
After a line up change from the original inception the guys have (for now) ditched the creative originals & decided to concentrate on taking the audience back to a time when music was real, raw & in your face. In Ronnie’s words “our mission is to educate & enlighten” & the tunes have been carefully handpicked.
They’re definitely not Punk’s Greatest Hits, but they are all significant. This wise sage also adds that “the best songs have already been written, so why waste your time writing new tunes when you could be indulging”. The live appearances are a ‘warts & all’ Punk Rock Rollercoaster and they unashamedly adhere to the Punk Rock ethic of ‘just having a go’…
With Tex on Bass, from the late 70s he started out in the Pits & Carnage band (who supported the likes of Thee Milkshakes and The Prisoners), and has always been a faithful follower and supporter of Medway acts.
With Andy on Drums, another early name on the Medway scene, his band was Sulphate, who not only supported The Pop Rivets, but also released a double A-sided single with them. The Smugglers have enticed him back to the throne.
With Chris on Vocals, once in a band called The Spirals, the band have groomed him into Punk Rock. With Ronnie on Rhythm Guitar, previously of The Crustaceons and The Throttles. And there’s Ash on Lead Guitar, previously of Pulse ( a short lived band from Gillingham in the late 90s) and The Throttles, he’s keen to strum, bang or prod anything you throw at him!
‘Punk Rockin’ at Ranscombe’ is the second release from Medway’s ubiquitous go-to Punk Rock warm up act ‘The Burntwick Smugglers’, who have supported the likes of The 5.6.7.8’s, Auntie Vegetable and even The Prisoners (at their unplanned ‘reunion’ gig in 2021). Here we have five of their fave ‘hits’ from their live sets.
Limited to 300 copies on vinyl.
Recorded, produced and mastered by Jim Riley at Ranscombe Studios, Rochester, Kent.
