Their harmony-laden baroque\/freakbeat and hook-laden, jangly sound is so authentic, it's hard to believe that you're not listening to a lost record from the sixties.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe band formed in 2016 when Paul Nelson (New Electric Ride) approached Paul Milne (Hidden Masters \/ Magnetic Mind) to work on some songs together. A shared enthusiasm for late-60s baroque psychedelia and 12-string jangle soon blossomed into a prolific songwriting team, and before long the duo had more songs than they knew what to do with.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey were joined shortly after by Sarah Gonputh on keys and Elian Dalmasso on drums, and the newly-minted quartet set about recording a demo in their rehearsal room on an old cassette 4-track.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlso joined by Dan Davies on guitar, the band have since released five 7\" singles and two albums on various independent labels, and have been making waves with their embellished pop, gaining support from the likes of Mark Radcliffe, Gideon Coe and Marc Riley on BBC Radio 6 Music.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOnto album number three! An ad found Simon Trundle (previously The Palominos) for shred guitar, and Tony O’Rourke (previously The Strookas) on bottom end bass.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith the line up complete, rehearsals and numerous gigs later, it was time make an album!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMordros – Cornish for ‘the sound of the surf’ is the debut album. It features fifteen tracks, seven of which are originals written by the band, with six covers with a twist.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSide One kicks off with ‘Penetration’ (The Pyramids) leading you on to ‘Surfgasm’ one of the bands own tunes. Some cleverly arranged TV and film theme covers follow with a version of label stablemate, Billy Childish’s ‘Poka Hontas’ (featuring The Del Pats on vocals), sandwiched in between. Onto another of the band’s own tunes ‘Crashing Wave’ before a nice bit of Dutch surf in the form of Focus’ ‘Hocus Pocus’, ending with the mellow beach sounds of ‘Moe-uhana’, Hawaiian for soul sleep.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSide Two kicks off with sirens, shouting and warnings of getting ‘Caught In A Rip’, another of Delicious Patricia’s own\u003cbr\u003ework. Surf’s up with a cover of the ‘White Horses’ theme, then more European surf arrives next, as the boys give us their version of Kraftwerk’s ‘The Model’. The band then hit you with two of their own, telling us that ‘Patricia Don’t Surf’ and it’s also ‘Patricia’s Last Wave’. There is a wiener in-between those two majestic buns, with a cool cover of The Astronauts’ ‘Hot Doggin’.
